PROTOS’ strategic themes are the main thread of each of PROTOS’ regional programmes. They form the core of the capacity building of local communities and local authorities, which is our most important goal besides the provision of infrastructure works. These strategic themes are:

• Integrated Water Resources Management as a frame of reference;
• a multi-stakeholder approach;
• a strong responsibility for the water users;
• recognition of the local client-contractorship;
• synergy between drinking water, hygiene and sanitation;
• attention to institutional capacity building for sustainability;
• water and gender
