Integrated Water Resources Management in the inner delta of the Niger.

Target groups
In total 40.000 beneficiaries in the region around Mopti:
- in the suburbs of the city of Mopti: 800-1200 users per
infrastructure;
- in the municipality of Socoura (semi-urban and rural character):
800-1200 users per infrastructure;
- in the municipalities of Kewa/Soye (rural character): more than
1200 users per infrastructure.
Objective
Improving the access to safe drinking water and the use of water in
the inner delta of the Niger.
Main results
- The access to water (drinking water and agricultural water) has
durably improved for the inhabitants of the delta through the
installation of 22 new wells and 16 boreholes, the renovation of 22
existing water points, the installation of 200 sanitary facilities and
through activities to obtain 1000 hectares of irrigated
perimeters.
- The management methods and techniques for the PIV’s (“Périmètres
Irrigués Villageois”= Irrigated Perimeters of the Village) have
improved.
- The capacities of the actors involved from the municipalities of
Mopti, Socoura, Soye and Kewa to manage water resources have been
reinforced:

- the capacities to plan and exploit in the field of water resources
of the NGOs, the municipalities and the communities have been
reinforced;
- the inhabitants have been better informed and apply the principles
of water resources management and integral approach of the delta;
- all the actors assume better their role and legal responsibility
regarding integrated water resources management;
- the farmers using the irrigation water are organized and
reinforced.
- The consultation between the different actors in the field of water
resources management has improved.
