GIREDIN - 3

= «Gestion intégrée des ressources en eau dans le delta intérieur du Niger» Integrated Water Management in the inner Niger-delta. This programme is an extension of the GIREDIN-project to 10 more municipalities in the inner delta of the Niger.

  • 14 town councils (Mopti, Korombana, Konna, Ouroube Doude, Socoura, Soye, Tenenkou, Diaka, Diafarabe, Kewa, Togué-Mourrari, Nema-Badenyakafo, Youwarou, Deboye).
  • Partenariat National de l’Eau (PNE) (National Partnership for Water).
  • Centre Régional de l’Eau et de l’Assainissement (CREPA) (Regional Center for Water and Sanitation).
  • CISV (an Italian NGO).

Target Groups

In total 98.000 beneficiaries in the 14 municipalities. On top to that also the town councils, the deconcentrated state services and the private sector.

Objective

Improvement of the access to safe drinking water and sanitation for the underprivileged population in the inner delta by means of participative, innovative and appropriate methods supporting municipal client- contractorship.

Main results

  • The different actors are able to assume their respective roles conform the legislation of Mali related to decentralization, drinking water, sanitation and integrated water management.
  • The population of the involved municipalities have an increased number of functional water points  conform with their local municipal development plans.
  • The involved municipalities have functional public sanitation infrastructure and execute programs for individual sanitation.
  • The population involved adopts more and more better hygienic behaviour and uses the water points and sanitary infrastructure in an adequate way.
  • The principles of IWRM and the protection of the environment are taken into consideration by the municipalities in dialogue with the water users.
  • The pertinent experiences and information related to water management and sanitation in the inner delta are capitalized and distributed, and consultation between the different water actors has improved.
