= Drinking water and sanitation in the province of Vatovavy – Fitovinany (South East of Madagascar).

PartnersThe project is executed within the cooperation between ICCO Netherlands (primary responsible), PROTOS (the technical and methodological aspects of water and sanitation) and 3 NGO’s of Madagascar (FIKRIFAMA, SAF/FJKM and Frères de St Gabriël).
Target groups- The inhabitants of 20 villages of the Northern half of the province. Every year 25.000 people are provided with access to drinking water.
- The municipal councils of the involved villages are formed and coached to gradually take up their part as client-contractor and co-ordinator in the water sector.
Objectives- Sustainable supply in drinking water, good hygiene and sanitation.
- Reinforcement of the organisational capacities of local NGO’s and municipalities.
Main results- Access to drinking water for 25.000 people per year.
- Several appropriate sanitary infrastructures have been set up.
- The local management capacity in the field of sanitation and drinking water supply is reinforced.
- New methods are designed, tested and evaluated with regard to local client-contractorship, decentralisation and sustainable management mechanisms for supply of drinking water in rural areas.
