= Capacity building in the integrated management of water resources in Madagascar.
Key elements- Organisational (technical, methodological, administrative) and institutional (exchange and co-operation) reinforcement.
- Capitalisation of experiences and influencing policies.
Target groups- Directly: local NGO’s in Madagascar that are operative in the water sector, in particular FIKRIFAMA, SAF/FJKM and the “Frères de Saint Gabriël”.
- Indirectly: the project contributes to a more successful approach of these organisations, who together are responsible for ca. 70% of the rural drinking water systems and the coaching of ca. 600 rural drinking water committees.
- Coaching and training to 26 municipal councils and to drinking water committees that are involved in the field actions in the Andromba-valley and in the province of Vatovavy-Fitovinany.
ObjectiveOrganisational and institutional reinforcement of the local actors that are involved in water management, water supply and sanitation in order to improve the sustainability and the reproduction of their actions.
Synergy and co-operationThe action is worked out in cooperation with the Dutch NGO ICCO. This NGO operates in Madagascar and has a program in capacity building for local NGO’s. PROTOS takes care of the technical and methodological aspects for the NGO’s that are operative in the water sector, while ICCO takes responsibility for the more general organisational aspects.
Main results - The reinforcement of the technical capacities of the partners, particularly concerning sustainable supply of water and sanitation.
- The methodology of the partners has improved to give a better answer to the actual challenges.
- The methods of the partners to manage knowledge has improved.
- The co-operation between PROTOS and her partners are overheard in the national, sector and regional debates on water theme’s in which they have build their expertise.
