Target groupsThe population of the municipality Saut d’Eau, namely:
- the users of the drinking water and irrigation infrastructure (about 27.600 persons);
- the members of the management structures (CAEP’s - Comités d’Adduction d’Eau Potable, irrigation associations), the municipal association, and the different district associations;
- the local authorities, the departmental office of the ministry of agriculture (DDA) and the SNEP.
Objectives- Reinforcement of the organizational and management capacities of the local actors in the valorisation of the water resources in the municipality.
- To improve the access to drinking water in a sustainable and equitable way, and the behaviour of the population in the field of hygiene and sanitation.
- To improve in a sustainable and equitable way the access to irrigation water and to upgrade the irrigation perimeters.
Main results - The existing drinking water infrastructures of Saut d’Eau, Destinville and Lamarre have been restored and the users are satisfied with the functioning.
- The setup of a global master plan for water is started up in the municipality of Saut d’Eau which leads to 4000 extra beneficiaries for drinking water provision.
- The irrigation systems of La Tombe, Rondeau and Mahotière have improved and the irrigation perimeters are expanded with 200 hectare.
- The drinking water committees and the user associations in regard to irrigation water have increased their knowledge in the field of management, communication, negotiation, conflict management, and gender criteria.
- At least 80% of the infrastructure as well as the management structures are functioning adequately.
- A process of direct education of the drinking water committees and sensitization of the population results in a rational water use, protection of the sources, and better hygienic practices.
