Target groups

  • Drinking Water committees of the different water systems.
  • Water associations (intercommunal) and/or communal governance bodies.
  • Municipal authorities in the relevant districts.

Objective

Participatory management structures and processes guarantee a sustainable performance of the rural  drinking water, irrigation water and sanitation services for 75,000 users in the 6 districts.

Main results

  • The newly installed or rehabilitated systems are all governed by a representative and functioning water committee,  that has received specific training on administrative, financial and technical aspects.
  • The different water committees are efficiently coached by water associations and/or municipal governance structures, with representation from both consumers and local governments.
  • The 2nd-line structured water organization are integrated in the long term plans and vision of the drinking water and sanitation sector in each district.

DGOS/DGCD, EU, and the LNE department of the Flemish Government, TMVW, IMDC, BFOS and GROHE in the framework of the Flemish partnership for Water and Development.
