Objectives- A long-lasting improvement of the access to drinking water and of the behaviour of the population in the field of hygiene and sanitation.
- The reinforcement of the abilities and the position of the main actors in the municipal water sector, namely:
- the population and the municipal authorities in the field of acting as client-contractor;
- the local NGOs as social mediators;
- the women in their role of co-manager of the processes and the realizations of the project.
Main results- 94 new hydraulic constructions are operational (wells or boreholes, a small water system with reservoir, and 4 drinking water systems), supplying together about 130 villages or communities.
- 40 existing hydraulic constructions are repaired and made operational again.
- The rules concerning hygiene are respected in 200 villages and districts.
- The necessary sanitary facilities were installed in the same villages and communities. All are operational.
- The management committees for each water point in 200 villages or communities are active and able to keep the infrastructure operational during a long time.
- The local authorities of the municipalities of Dogbo, Toviklin and Lalo control the planning, the realization and the management in accordance with a view of participation, with attention to gender and taking the national guidelines and standards for the sector into account.
- NGOs from Benin successfully back up the population and the municipal authorities in planning, realization and management of the projects and of the water and sanitation infrastructure.
- The framework for mutual questioning and exchange between the NGOs and the other actors has been reinforced.
