The programme will continue the work in the 14 villages which were already the geographic focus in the previous phases and will be extended with an additional 4 villages in the inner delta of the Niger.

Target Group
A total of 21,000 direct beneficiaries in the 18 villages (340,000 indirect beneficiaries; the population in those 18 villages). In addition, the village councils, decentralised government institutions and private sector.
Objective
Long lasting improvement of the access to water and sanitation for the poor population in 18 villages of the Niger inner delta using a participatory, innovative and integrated approach in support of the local Client-contractorship (implying ownership of the infrastructure by the 'client').
Main Results
- The different stakeholders are capable to take up their respective roles in line with Malinese legislation related to decentralisation, drinking water and sanitation and integrated water management.
- Around 12.000 individuals have lasting access to drinking water.
- Around 9.000 individuals possess individual basic sanitation or have access to public sanitation infrastructure.
- Existing water and sanitation infrastructure is managed sustainably.
- The involved population becomes familiar with more hygienic behaviour and uses the water and sanitation infrastructure appropriately.
- A convention for the sustainable use of water resources is created and implemented.
