Target groups

Objectives

The action wants to concede to the necessity of the population to drinking water facilities and sanitation.  Many NGO's provide 'short term emergency help'. By setting up a network and reinforcing the capacity by organising workshops, exchanges, formulating action plans and action-focused research, there will be an evolution to sustainable development.
Harmonisation of intervention strategies improves sustainability. Information exchange between the different interventions improves coordination allowing to direct focus to areas with the highest needs.

Main results

  1. More than 60% of the actors in the water and sanitation sector in North and South Kivu (except the emergency aid organisations) are member of the PEHA or REHA.
  2. The members of both the co-operations pay membership fees to help financing its functioning.
  3. Action plans are implemented for the reinforcement of the organisation, the development of the organisation and for organisational learning.
  4. 36.000 people have sustainable access to drinking water.
  5. 8.500 people have access to sanitation infrastructure.
  6. An experiment concerning Integrated Water Resources Management in a micro basin is done and will regarded as a study-object by other actors.
